In 1952 local prosecutors in Fellman's Peak raided the establishment known as The Empowerment Academy! Police claimed that it was being run as a brothel.
Rumours spread quickly about bizarre rituals including cross-dressing and flagellation. But when a prominent member of the community 'introduced' her young 'wife' to reporters the locals were stunned:
'My husband entered The Empowerment Academy, voluntarily, two years ago,' Audrey Evans declared, 'he graduated - as a lovely young 'wife' - my wife. We are both grateful to Dr Humbert's assistance.'
Dr Miriam Humbert, who had originally set up the academy as a state-funded 'fear management' training establishment, was arrested and immediately bailed.
The case never came to trial - the case was dismissed after statements from both employees and male pupils. The Empowerment Establishment closed its doors. Dr Humbert's only reported statement was as follows:
'Fear makes us weak. And womankind is already too weak to properly defend herself. It doesn't matter whether we speak of the fear of spiders, the fear of crime, or the fear of violent husbands - the answer is simple. We must be bold and brutal. We must face and defeat the object of our fear - even if that fear is man himself. Gender roles are not set in stone. We can, indeed we must, reverse the march of history. Masculinity is the problem. Femininity is the answer.'
We can now reveal the whole incredible truth.
In Court, when asked about men wearing female clothes she said:
'We were not dressing men as women; we were creating women out of men. There was no humiliation - the men we transformed were perfectly attired in the finest gowns and lingerie and foundation-wear. We trained them in the arts of deportment, attitude and domesticity. You must understand - these men wanted to be feminine!'
When asked about the use of 'sex-toys' she replied:
'We were training young men to be submissive wives. Sexual submission does not come naturally - of course we gave instruction to both parties - and the strap-on dildo was an essential element in that instruction.'
